Alex,

Thanks for your thoughtful comment. You bring up a very valid point as well. I think with this new revision of the site (coming soon I hope), you'll see that I've found a good balance between the two. The sites that show up will still have a "recommended" icon next to them if I personally like them. Those sites will still show up at the top. Then, the sites that show up after that will be the user 'upvoted' ones. Hopefully this will satisfy both sides of the argument.

Thanks again,

Xuan Li

Be careful when following suggestions of making your page user-generated. Yes, for most users who do not know it, it would be a leap of faith and trust in your taste and your expertise. But you provide integrity, and learning one person is easier than trusting "an anonymous crowd".

I could rephrase easily rephrase this comment:
"I don’t know who you are, so why should I trust your recommendations? I wouldn’t mind if you were the only person to decide what gets posted, but I would like to see content from users, primarily tags, votes, and comments. This might also increase user engagement."

Well, I do not know who composes that bunch of random users who posted / tagged / voted those links, so why should I trust their recommendations?

"an average internet user" is dumb, mediocre and lazy. He will post links to things he briefly liked but not really tried, things he "would love to use one day", he "likes the idea about" but he never actually used.

People who actually have experience with things will be a minority. Collectors and knowledge experts are minority by definition, because they specialize. If you specialize on collecting online education resources which are good and free, I trust you more than a bunch of anonymous users who vote based on the hotness of the trends and not the deeper quality of the content.
